Riot Games has just supended Jordan "Zellsis" Montemurro from the Stage 3 Challengers 1 tournament for making a "categorically offensive and discriminatory remark about a tournament official."
Version1 exceeded expectations in Iceland by beating Team Liquid in a close 3 map series with a stand-in! Since then Version1 is considered among the top tier team in NA Valorant scene. Just when things started looking good for the team, it got hit with another problem where Zellsis is now suspended for the first Challenger Open Qualifier and Main Event of Stage 3 due to violating rule 7.1.2 of the Global Competitive Policy. It's currently unclear what exactly Zellsis said about the tournament official.
The rule states that- "All Teams and Team Members must observe the highest standards of personal integrity and good sportsmanship at all times. Team Members must behave in a professional and sportsmanlike manner in their interactions with other competitors, Tournament Officials, the Tournament Operator, the media, sponsors and fans [...]."
Version1 took it to twitter to give their take on this situation. "Riot has suspended Zellsis for an inappropriate comment at Masters in Iceland. Version1 and Zellsis regret the incident and apologize to Riot staff. We accept Riot’s decision and will be playing with a sub for the first open and closed qualifiers of stage 3 of VCT." they said.
